PHC Global / Biological-risk intelligence
Biological-risk intelligence. Alpha in one month.
PHC Global brought the public-health expertise and analysis. We partnered with their team on design and frontend engineering, helping the product reach alpha in one month, then beta a few months later.

01 / The challenge
Bring the next milestone into view.
PHC Global was preparing to bring its biological-risk intelligence into an alpha product. We joined their team to help translate that expertise into an interface for the people making decisions about organizations, facilities and teams.
More about the challenge
Different roles needed different views of locations, threats and possible responses. The interface had to connect complex analysis with the decisions a risk manager was trying to make.

Data-powered workforce planning
The Workforce Planning Tool brings PHCâs analysis into a view for considering potential operational impacts.
03 / Inside the work
A substantial frontend.
A focused month of work.
Our first month centered on design and frontend engineering for the alpha. Interactive mapping and integration with PHCâs data services were substantial parts of that work. The milestone was a product the teams could continue building on together.
We worked alongside PHCâs specialists to connect their analysis to the experience on screen. Research with risk-management professionals and personas informed the design, keeping the people making decisions central to the interface.

Connecting backend predictions to frontend insights
We worked with PHCâs data scientists to connect a streaming risk-analysis engine with the frontend. The product presents information relevant to planning, travel and exposure-response workflows.

Multi-layer risk mapping
Staying on top of the health landscape is complicated, but PHC Globalâs interactive maps make visualizing it simple. We helped design and optimize features that let users create saved tracking locations, adjusting the radius and threats monitored for each one. The map view also enables users to add or remove threat layers, giving them eyes on all (and only) the information they need to plan for and respond to risk.

Personalized alerts for every user
Customizable notifications let users closely monitor their organizationâs most relevant locations, threat categories, and other key risk factors â keeping critical updates highly visible, accessible, and digestible to support fast, informed decision-making in high-stakes situations.

Keeping ahead of emerging threats
A gated content-management system hosts health updates and guidance. A Critical Threats page provides a dedicated place for information and resources during significant events.

New look, new risk monitoring abilities
The design system evolved for clearer information and feature expansion. New patterns support additional monitoring categories within a coherent interface.
09 / Our contribution
Alpha in a month.
Beta a few months later.
PHC brought the science, domain knowledge and product ambition. Twenty Ideas brought design and frontend engineering to help reach the alpha milestone in one month.
The partnership continued toward beta a few months later. The product evolved across mapping, planning, alerts and the interface patterns that connect them. Our contribution was to help turn PHCâs expertise into an experience people could use.
PHCâs wider growth included a $35 million Series A, reported by The Telegraph in September 2022.
Under the surface: how this project was built
Interface foundation
React and Material UI supported the product interface and its design patterns.
Content delivery
Sanity CMS connected health updates and guidance to the frontend.
Our engineering boundary
Our work connected PHCâs data services to mapping and planning views. The risk-analysis engine came from PHCâs scientists.
10 / Product work
Bring analysis into the working day.
Location monitoring, threat investigation and response planning connect in one product experience.
