Daimler Truck North America / TechAssist / Mobile product development
Hands on the vehicle.
Information close at hand.
We helped Daimler Truck North America develop TechAssist, a mobile companion connecting technicians’ documentation to the existing TechLane platform.

01 / The challenge
The work happens away from the desk.
TechLane holds technical information used for fleet diagnostics and repairs. For a technician working around or underneath a vehicle, returning to a laptop interrupts the job.
More about the challenge
Daimler wanted a mobile companion that could fit hands-on work while connecting back to its existing platform. Compatibility with that environment was part of the product problem from the start.

02 / A product decision
Hands-free note taking
TechAssist uses voice-to-text to help technicians document work completed or still needed. Notes can stand alone or accompany image files, supporting documentation while hands are occupied with the vehicle.
03 / Inside the work
Connect the phone to the repair workflow.
We built on a mobile concept developed during a DTNA-sponsored hackathon. Our work examined the information-sharing needs, platform infrastructure and available integration paths.
The product roadmap addressed authentication and the transfer of photographs, text and metadata. That gave the mobile experience a defined relationship to the work order and the existing system.

04 / A product decision
QR to hub
After capturing images and notes, a technician can connect that documentation to the central system by scanning the dedicated work-order QR code in TechLane. The mobile interaction returns its information to the existing workflow.
05 / Our contribution
From a phone at the vehicle
to the existing work order.
Daimler brought the service environment and the TechLane platform. We developed the mobile experience around the technician’s task: capture notes and photographs, then attach them to the right work order.
Our contribution connected product strategy, authentication and integration planning with mobile engineering. Voice transcription and QR scanning gave hands-on work a direct path back into the central system.
Under the surface: how this project was built
Mobile implementation
React, TypeScript and Expo supported the iOS and Android application.
Capture at the vehicle
Speech-to-text and photographs captured the technician’s notes and supporting information.
Return to the work order
A QR scan linked the captured documentation to the corresponding TechLane work order.
06 / Product work
Bring the information to the work.
TechAssist connects technicians’ mobile documentation with the existing TechLane platform.
