Better Breastfeeding / Digital platform
Bringing breastfeeding guidance into a digital product.
We worked with Dr. Linda Dahl’s team to translate breastfeeding guidance into a digital experience built around assessments, video resources and ongoing check-ins.

01 / The challenge
Make expertise easier to reach.
Dr. Linda Dahl had developed a body of breastfeeding guidance through clinical practice, books and instructional work. Her team wanted to make that knowledge available through an interactive format beyond the office visit.
More about the challenge
A library alone would not answer every person’s question. The product needed to help users describe their concerns and find relevant resources as their needs changed.

02 / A product decision
Personalized video recommendations on-demand
Dr. Dahl and her team drew upon her in-person clinical strategies to create a comprehensive series of original video tutorials, each focused on a specific breastfeeding topic. We worked with them to analyze and categorize this new video library, and then developed a complementary recommendation engine to suggest the most relevant content based on user responses to guided questionnaires, milk production metrics, and more.

03 / Inside the work
Connect a question to relevant guidance.
We worked with Dahl’s team to adapt the in-person approach into a digital flow. User responses, goals and concerns help organize the experience and guide resource recommendations.
The work combined questionnaires, a video library, recommendation logic and progress check-ins. The clinical expertise came from the client; our contribution was shaping and building the product around it.

04 / A product decision
Developing a 24/7 virtual breastfeeding specialist
The Virtual Breastfeeding Specialist starts with a self-assessment centered on goals and concerns. A custom algorithm recommends instructional resources based on responses, and users can repeat the assessment as their situation changes.
05 / A product decision
Evidence-based progress tracking
Wellness Check-Ins gather nursing metrics through responsive forms. The product generates trend summaries and comparisons that users can reference or share with their own care providers.
06 / Our contribution
Clinical knowledge.
A product people can navigate.
Dr. Dahl and her team supplied the guidance, video content and clinical approach. Twenty Ideas designed and built the questionnaires, recommendation logic and progress views that make those resources usable outside a consultation.
The product connects a person’s answers to relevant content and brings check-in information into a record they can share with their own care provider.
Under the surface: how this project was built
Connected code
TypeScript and Nx supported code sharing across the client, API and infrastructure.
Product and data
React supported the web interface; Nest.js, PostgreSQL and Prisma supported the API and data layer.
Infrastructure
AWS CDK, Lambda and ECS formed part of the deployment architecture.
07 / Product work
Guidance for a changing journey.
Assessments, practical resources and repeat check-ins in one digital experience.
